OMGoodness – Trina, Paisly, and I saw the ball fall on Times Square, and we agreed to describe the experience as AWESOME.
We decided we did not want to be pushed, shoved, and compressed by the millions plus people on and around 42nd Street, but to be further back on 52nd street where we had a full view without the condensed crowds.
It was a good theory. But, like many theories, it did not play out as we imagined or planned.
Getting to 7th street so we could have a straight shot view of the ball drop was not easy. Although we asked many people questions, we didn’t get the memo on how to manipulate the swarm of live bodies, the NYPD, and the illogical placement of barricades. We walked and ran around and between 8th, 9th, and 55th through 59th, trying to find a street that was accessible to the East.
But, we have inherent tenacity. We joined the push and shove game, proved authenticity to police officers, and made it. We saw the countdown, the ball drop, and the 2017 numbers illuminate. It was an experience never to forget because there was heightened emotion throughout attaining our lofty goal.
We arrived back at the apartment laughing, groaning, and recollecting the details of actually being there. We toasted with wine and collapsed.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
