What are you doing to stretch your comfort zone?
This morning my husband said, “Let’s ride to breakfast. Want to?”
I said, “Sure, but I want to ride the Spyder and you can ride the Harley.”
I’m pretty much a girly-girl, so my idea was a BIG statement. I have taken the beginner’s rider’s academy and have a motorcycle endorsement on my license, but I am a chicken when it comes to actually riding as the driver.
Our three-wheel Can Am is a different story. I love riding as a passenger, but to take it out on my own, other than a few blocks at a time, I have not done and I was scared.
So, I got my gear on, and although my husband was leery, he went along with me. He warned me that drivers following will not like my slow speed, and he asked if I knew for sure where we were going.
I said, “Yes.”
It took me a minute to remember how to start the thing, and once I did I took two spins around the circle drive and pulled onto Highway 34. I rode sixty miles and it was exhilarating! My husband led and I kept up with him the entire trip. I was feeling pretty cocky!
As I was curving through the Rocky Mountains, Chris Janson’s song, Buy Me a Boat, played on the radio. The lyrics matched my mood; upbeat and fun. It was a great county song that fit the occasion.
The lyrics included something like:
“…Yeah, I know what they say, money can’t buy everything
Well, maybe so,
But it could buy me a boat…”
Janson’s song will always remind me of the day I had courage to ride like a big girl. My Spyder represented his boat.
I’m going to do it again tomorrow.

Until the next time: Live while you live!
