Voices of Rural Women across American Heartland-8

I only spoke briefly to one rural woman all day – but great stories are often short…

Apples from Farm Orchard in S Central Ohio

Gail in S Central Ohio

We saw a sign directing us to apples and peaches, and turned onto a road with the beautiful Ohio setting of lush green everywhere. We pulled into a farm orchard where a red barn with a horse weather vane greeted us.

Upon entrance two women cheerfully said hello. I wondered around and enjoyed looked at the beautiful produce and unusual gift items. We asked if it was possible to buy only two peaches.

“Absolutely,” one woman said as they rushed to helped each other find two perfect peaches.  They laughed together, and it seemed they loved their jobs.

As I paid, I asked how long she had been there. She laughed and said, “Seventy-six years. Well not that long for me! I’ve been here only thirty-seven.”

They both laughed whole-heartedly, and contributed to the positive atmosphere and shopping experience.

Nothing about the women would have struck me as more than competent and pleasant customer service, except the one who spoke with me was in a wheelchair.

She was possibly one of the owners, and I admired her great attitude even though she had mobility challenges in a physically demanding career.

Thank you Gail for helping me model your good attitude as I sat on a bike through the entire state of green Ohio.

I lost my coin purse with my ID, credit cards, and medical cards. I called the Farm Orchard and they FOUND it! Not only are the women uplifting, they are honest with those solid rural values. I am one grateful rural woman – nowtraveling into PA on the back of a Spyder!
