I couldn’t think of anything to write about this week, so I Googled nationaldaycalendar.com to see if 4-14-21 was a national holiday and could spark my creativity. I discovered the day is a National Day for Dolphins, Ex-spouses, Gardening, Pan American, Pecans, Reach High As You
Can, and Look Up At the Sky.
I have no experience with dolphins, although my kids swam with them in the Bahamas.
I have an ex-spouse who is a good friend and causes people to think we are a little weird. My daughter and daughters-in-law love to garden, and I’m thankful because they share their produce with me.
Pan American Day began in 1890 and commemorated the First International Conference of American States. I’ve never heard of it, so I’ve already told you more than I know. I do wonder, though, if their mission is successful—It seems to me after 130 years, North and South America still has a few differences to reconcile.
I love pecans, especially if they are mixed with sugar and put in a crust, but they are difficult to crack so I buy them in a bag and complain about the price.
The last two, Reach High As You Can and Look Up At The Sky, struck some chords, probably because my day isn’t going so good, the sky is gray, and the wind is blowing, so I don’t even want to go for a walk.
I’m at the Rotary House, a hotel attached to MD Anderson Cancer Center. Nobody can stay here unless he or she has cancer or is with somebody who does. As I sit in the pleasant atrium with my trusty computer, people wander in and out, back and forth. It is pretty easy to guess who is the patient and who is the support person. I wonder about their stories. Many have situations more distressing than ours, but I feel sad for all of us right now. Looking to the sky and reaching high is valuable advice for mental health and a purposeful reason for national recognition, but today I feel melancholy.
Sometimes we need low energy, down days to regroup. Every day cannot be good, great, or excellent, and allowing doldrums now and again, especially when warranted, can give tomorrow or the next day a better chance for positive outlooks.
My husband was told by his doctor the trial drug he was on is not doing what they had hoped, and they want to try another. It was good news, bad news, and everything in-between, so I am gifting myself permission to put off the National Days of Reach High As You Can and Look Up At The Sky until tomorrow.
As Scarlett said in Gone With the Wind, “After all, tomorrow is another day!”
Until the next time: Live while you live.

I am catching up on e-mails and reading this after Cal lost his fight with cancer . He fought a good fight and I am so sorry for that. I do hope that we all have another day …. mine today was not the greatest and I really don’t know why. I hope and pray for our new days to be blessed by God!
Yes, Marva, I’m happy with flat, neutral, and fair:) We all have to survive tough times, and I guess this is my turn
