Depressed? Suicidal? Call 911

For many people Christmas is a time filled with loneliness, anxiety, sadness, and self-doubt.

Any number of factors could be the culprit for holiday blues: relationships, financial pressure, too many commitments, memories of past holidays, unrealistic expectations, fatigue, stress, over-commercialization, and/or inability to be with one’s family and friends.

Any or all of the following could be symptoms of holiday depression: headaches, excessing drinking, over or under eating, insomnia, irritability, isolation and missing work, sleeping for long hours, communicating less, or behaving in ways that are different and unusual for any particular person.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, reach out to your friends, family, and co-workers. Support is vital in regaining your sense of wellbeing. Also take special care of yourself; eat well, get enough sleep, and schedule time when quiet and relaxation are possible.

If you or someone you know is feeling depressed or suicidal during the holiday season, or anytime for that matter, call 911. That is all you have to do, call 911 and the dispatcher will get you in touch with the right agency or therapist to help you within minutes.

Whether you only need a little boost or an opportunity to work on issues that have accumulated over the years, counseling is immediately available.

The hardest step is the first: pick up the phone. Then, make the call, and talk to a crisis counselor or make an appointment.

Holidays can be difficult; getting help is an excellent decision. It is a choice made by smart courageous people.

Until the next time: Live while you live
