I bought a small fifty-cent book in a thrift store. I found the author’s name in the credits: Compiled by Dan Zadra. and Designed by Jenica Wilkie. The title of the book was Thank You.
What caught my eye was the message on the first page: “Dad—Happy Father’s Day! I jotted a few notes by my favorite quotes! Enjoy! Ann.”
As I turned each page, I found checkmarks, stars, circles, comments, and pink highlights beside, around, and through quotes Ann wanted her dad to notice. She found and shared her Thank You in this unpretentious book of quotations. The words must have said what she wanted to say but couldn’t or didn’t.
I’m going to share some of the quotes that spoke strongest to Ann in the hope they will remind you to exchange what takes you down, with actions that bring you up. When you are below a five on a mental health scale, with ten being the best and one being black and dark, do something. Give someone a reason to say, “Thank YOU.”
“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” Dan Zadra
“Somewhere, someone is looking for exactly what you have to offer.” Louise L. Hay
“I will act as if I do make a difference.” William James
“When you care, people notice.” Susane Berger
“Love people use things. Not vice versa.” Kelly Ann Rothaus
“Seven national crimes: I don’t think, I don’t know, I don’t care, I am too busy, I leave well enough alone, I have no time to read and find out. I am not interested.” William J. H. Boetcker
“What we do today, right now, will have an accumulated effect on all of our tomorrows.” Alexandra Stoddard
“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” Mother Teresa
“The miracle is this—The more we give, the more we have.” Anonymous
“The purpose of this world is not ‘to have and to hold’ but ‘to give and serve.’ There can be no other meaning.” Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell
“When you are kind to someone in trouble, you hope they’ll remember and be kind to someone else…It will become like a wildfire.” Whoopi Goldberg
“Great opportunities to help others seldom come. But small ones surround us every day.” Sally Koch
“I will speak ill of no one and speak all the good I know of everyone.” Benjamin Franklin
As you can see, the best Thank You comes from what you give. If you feel depleted, remember, offering something as small as a positive thought, or a smile can add sunshine to YOUR day.
Until the next time: Live while you live.
