Colorado is now Coronavirus open with suggestions and restrictions. It reminds me of my Catholic faith when I first joined the church in 1966. It was a mortal sin to eat meat on Friday. Then, after the Second Vatican Council phased in, it was not a sin at all. One day I went to hell if I ate pot-roast for lunch on Friday, and then, voilà, I could fry bacon for breakfast, bake meatloaf for lunch, and barbecue ribs for dinner. Magic.
That is how opening up feels for me. I’m not sure what made the danger go from ten to zero overnight, but here we are, able to go out. How could it be so dangerous that we could only do essential business, to “Okay, you’re free to color your hair, eat in a restaurant, and go to a movie theater.”
I say, “Celebrate the opening, I’m as happy as anyone to restore some normalcy, but remember your brain when you leave the house.”
Not only have businesses been hit with lost revenue for weeks, they now have to disinfect regularly, reduce their occupancy, and implement a whole new process to serve their customers. It seems the rest of us can be smart, respect others, and stay six feet apart, wash hands, and wear a mask. How hard can that be? People have fought in wars to keep us safe—I think we can follow reasonable guidelines. Nobody is asking us to bungee jump or scale a glacier.
If everyone used commonsense, we could have fewer rules and more freedom. But, oh no, people pile into small places and flood beaches, with little to no regard for anyone, including themselves.
I don’t get it. We have little control over many things in life, but we have total control to follow three simple suggestions: stand six feet apart, wash our hands, and wear a mask.
Are these guidelines stupid? I don’t know. We know staying home reduced the spread. We see the death rate still rises; we now have over 100,000. Many dispute that number, so adjust it to your liking—it is happening. It is a no-brainer to me. Why not error on the side of safety and intelligence and stay a distance away, use lots of soap, and wear a mask when you’re around others? We won’t have to do it forever, ask your Catholic friends about meat on Friday.

We all need to look at the statistics. Since opening back up the virus has spread. Today in fact it was twice what it has ever been here in AZ. Yes, live while you live, but carefully!
I know, Geri. It is difficult for me to keep my personal reality attached to global reality. The numbers I hear, I believe, but in my own little bubble, all is fine and seems normal. I think this is just a time we need to live in our logic more than our emotions. Wishing you well!
And I say … Amen❣️😊
