On Cal’s last day we had an agenda, and things don’t always go as planned.
We found Fox and Friends studio on 48th and 6th, a first. Our friend Nancy in Estes Park asked us to wave from the window behind the news set. It sounded easy enough. We did find the studio, they were filming, and Ainsley Earhardt waved to me, but the window behind the set showing live traffic and people
walking was make-believe and from a live camera somewhere. We could not find it.
We asked three guards, “Where are they filming the audience scene? Where is the camera?” They each put a whole new meaning into, “Deer in the headlights.”
We called Nancy, laughed, and went to breakfast.
The Steven Colbert website read, “You must be on the standby lottery line at 1 PM – you then come back at 4:15 to find out if you won tickets to the show.” To be safe, we were the first in line at 11:00 in front of the Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway, a first. At 2:15, a young man in a red raincoat (yes, it was raining) and a gray stocking cap (yes, it was cold) said, “If you are here for standby tickets, be here at 4:20.” We explained we were following directions on their website, and he said, “Oh, we need to update that.” A group of us now friends for three hours, whined and growled. Holly, in the pink coat, whispered to him, “You could have told us that at 11:30.”
We went our separate ways. Showing tenacity, we each returned a little after 4:00 and saw the 5:30 taping. The show was great, and my son, after watching the show in CO, text, “He was a little rough on the Donald, wasn’t he?”
We did NOT get remotely close to seeing the Rockefeller Tree Lighting at 7:00 or hearing the performers. Even though I was disappointed, the experience of living through thousands of people squashed within a few square blocks, all trying to get to “The Tree,” a first, was memorable. I asked one of the hundreds of NYPD officers, “How do you suggest we get to see the tree?” He answered, “Go home and watch it on TV.”
Don’t forget; the total day happened in the rain.
Thursday: Cal left at noon. I’m glad he gets to go back to his job because his feet were hurting and he was bored, but I miss him already.

Cudos to Cal for visiting you, and you for trying to do all those events. I did see the tree lighting on TV it was 15 secs but pretty

Harold – how about kudos to ME for having him…There can’t be sexism in NYC:))) Right? You make me feel better that I only missed 15 seconds of glory. I was there last night and the crowds were still there – but at least I could get up close and personal. Thanks for following my probably boring blog:) Sign of a true friend:)

Good that you’re you’re missing Cal. I tried to convince John to come to Akron tonight and cook me supper, but no go! Mom is feeling pretty tough. Dr. says she prob has bruising on abdominal walls. She says her stomach hurts, so I guess that must be the same thing. Marlene relieves me for a couple of days tomorrow. And ditto Harold’s comment. You’ve been keeping busy!

Darn Geri, sorry your mom is hurting. That is tough for both of you. You have had more than your share of caregiving this year. I’m glad Marlene is giving you a break…I think it is a necessity. We are human, even though we don’t like to admit it. And ditto to what I wrote to Harold…a true friend to follow my adventure:)))
